Synopsis: When Margo Roth Spiegel man beckons Quentin Jacobsen in the middle of the night-dressed like a ninja and plotting an ingenious campaign of revenge, he follows her. Margo's always planned extravagantly and, until now, she's always planned solo. After a lifetime of loving Margo from afar, things are finally looking up for Q... until day breaks and she has vanished.
The Review :
Funny, loving and heart breaking.
My first John Green book and I liked it a lot!
Margo enters Q's bedroom at midnight and tells him that she has 11 things to do before morning. After a lot of thought and practically being forced into giving in, Q agrees to help her and he soon realizes it was one of his best nights. EVER. Although he does wonder if things will be different the next day. If the popular Margo will sit with him for lunch or not. Will she talk to him or not. But he never does find out as Margo runs away again and doesn't return like she always did.
At the beginning I thought of Margo as an adventurous person. A daredevil. And Quentin her acquaintance. But as I kept turning pages I couldn't help but start feeling bad for Q. It was right for his friend to question his quest to find Margo many times.
This was one book that made me laugh. There were certain lines and moments that were funny. The relationship between Q and his friends Ben and Radar is commendable. Spoiler Alert! - They skip an important occasion for the sake of Q and his mission to find Margo and know for sure that her 'strings' didn't snap like the guy they found dead in the park when they were 10.
I couldn't put the book down for the following reasons-
* To know where the hell is Margo!
* To find out where she is hiding.
* How Q finds her.
* Do his friends help him or not?
* Margo is dead or alive?
* If she is alive- will she go back home with Q ? If not- what will he do after he finds her body?
* Is his love that strong to keep looking or give up and just graduate.
There are discussion questions in the book, at the end, which I had a hard time answering. But, they were good questions.
Mainly the book is about a troubled teen who can't be someone who she isn't and wants to make someone a stronger, braver, a hero-kind-of person.
Praise For The Book :
Real pathos and humor - Financial Times.
Not only clever and wonderfully witty but also deeply thoughtful and insightful. - Booklist.
My Favorite Lines/ Quotes :
She loved mysteries so much that she became one.
The rules of capitalization are so unfair to the words in the middle.
And now life has become the future. Every moment of your life is lived for the moment.
"That's always seemed ridiculous to me that people would want to be around someone because they are pretty"
"Everything's uglier close up" .
The town was paper but the memories were not.
I could go on and on, there just so many beautiful lines in the book!
