Book Review 14 : Ugly Love - Colleen Hoover

Synopsis:
When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn't think it's love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

The Review:

I`ll try my best to deliver this review without any spoilers.

I heard about this book from a friend. So I decided to read it but when I read the synopsis on goodreads.com I began to have second thoughts. My friend said it's not that bad and since I`m not that young, the book is okay for me. So I downloaded it and started reading it.

Miles is a pilot just like Tate's brother Corbin and he lives across the hall being their immediate neighbor.  Miles has a troubled past which only his friend Ian knows about since they are childhood friends. The author writes book with the first chapter talking about the present and the next talking about Miles past-six years ago. It goes on like this until chapter 28 or so. There is a chapter written from Miles's point of view (which made me really happy) and this happened to be one of the chapters with a surprising revelation. There is also a chapter from Rachel's point of view. Better not read that until you reach there.

The agreement between Miles and Tate might make you think of Miles in the worst possible way-but trust me it gets better here and there and then to ruin that little crush the readers  have on him, comes a heart breaking story about his past and why his heart is so hard.

Tate is a 23-year-old woman who is studying and working as a nurse. She feels this strong pull towards Miles  every time he is around and so she agrees to his rules. Tate, being herself, can't stop what she feels for Miles but is left disappointed knowing that he will never feel the same about her. Yet, she has this little hope that if she continues doing what he wants and giving him what he needs, he might change. His heart might change.

Corbin is another important person I just had to write about. He is Tate's protective brother and never allows his friends to screw with her (sorry, for using that word). So readers definitely have a something to look forward to as in- Will Corbin find out? Will they tell him? Will he catch them in the act? How will he react? Will he stop being friends with Miles or kick Tate out? Or will he just let it go?

Dillon and Ian are pilots as well and friends with Miles and Corbin. Dillon is a married man, yet he tries to get Tate's attention. Ian is the nice guy in the whole book. (That's not a spoiler, is it?)

There is one character in the whole book who lightens everything. Cap. He is the old man, working in the apartment complex, in charge of the elevator. He is old, fun loving and a good adviser and a good listener. If you don't fall in love with Miles or Corbin (Tate's brother) , you will really really like Cap- the eighty- year-old.

I already feel like I`m giving a lot away. But I can't stop. When I was reading the book, I didn't like it much, but I`m really sad that it's over. I won't tell you how it ends, but I will say this, TAKE IT SLOW. Read the book as slowly as you can. You don't wanna regret reading it in a day and then write a review  feeling bad about finishing the book so fast and thinking it kinda sucked because there was so much of intimacy. But it doesn't matter now. I think I`m going to read the book again and I`m not skipping any parts.

These were my reactions every time I reached the chapters when Tate and Miles 'did it'.

The first time - Wow! okay.....this is a lot of detail.

Other times - Again? Okay, well, that was the deal. But the book will get better.

The rain = the car = 'you know what'. And so on.

Apart from all this you will be really curious to find out what terrible thing happened in Miles past that made him too scared to fall in love again. You will feel sorry for Tate here and there, since let's face it, she is actually being used, His rules really bugged me. Also he only texts when he is home and at night. Poor girl. But she brought this upon herself.

The Movie -

The movie is completed and the teaser is out! I request you not to compare it with 50 shades....until and unless you have read the book. Here is the link and the movie poster of Miles. It's not official yet.

My Favorite Lines/ Quotes :

“Love isn't always pretty. Sometimes you spend all your time hoping it'll eventually be something different. Something better. Then, before you know it, you're back to square one, and you lost your heart somewhere along the way.”

God gives us the ugliness so we don’t take the beautiful things in life for granted

Sometimes not speaking says more than all the words in the world.

Ugly love becomes you. Consumes you. Makes you hate it all. Makes you realize that all the beautiful parts aren't even worth it. Without the beautiful, you'll never risk feeling the ugly. So you give it all up. You give it all up. You never want love again, no matter what kind it is, because no type of love will ever be worth living through the ugly love again.”

“It's the beautiful moments like this that make up for the ugly love

I suppose if a man lived through the ugliest side of love, he might never want to experience it again.”

If I were capable of loving someone . . . it would be you.

And many more.

Book Review 13 - Will Grayson, Will Grayson - John Green and David Levithan

SynopsisOne cold night, in a most unlikely corner of Chicago, teenager Will Grayson crosses paths with. "Will Grayson"! Two teens with the same name who run in two very different circles suddenly find their lives going in new and unexpected directions. Culminating in epic turns-of-heart on both of their parts, they team up to produce the most fabulous musical ever to grace the high-school stage. Told in alternating voices from two award-winning, popular names in young-adult fiction - John Green (author of "The Fault in Our Stars") and David Levithan (author of "Boy Meets Boy")

The Review:

My first LGBT book and it was beautiful. It wasn't too dramatic nor too sloppy. I don't know how LGBT books are supposed be since I`ve read only one but this one is enough for me to read more.

Just remember not to judge a book by it's first few chapters. It can get better or it can get worse, in order to find out YOU HAVE TO CONTINUE READING.

John Green and David Levithan did a good job. Both are gifted writers.

I really liked Tiny Cooper in the book. He was open about his sexuality and he didn't care what anyone thought. I secretly I was like him - Really Don't give a quak!about what others say and others comments but again, the book is  a piece of fiction, yet motivating to be yourself. I was bit mixed about what exactly the book was saying until I read what JG and DL had to say at the end. But over all I liked the book. I loved the while chapter about the play and how everyone stands up at the end. I could feel it happening.

Also you will notice that the chapters written by David Levithan are in lower case. When John Green asked him why did he write using lowercase, he gave the most logical answer that helped me understand the character better, He said the character thinks of himself as a lower case and when chatting people often tend to use lower case so that's the reason behind the lowercasedness.

I have nothing bad to say about this book. It is too real and too true to be fiction in the first place. (We) I never had a idea of what people go through after their companions (here, everyone) gets to know about their sexuality.

I was very happy with this book and I thank my online friend from a whole different country/continent for suggesting this book to me.

Also the book ends pretty well, you might have tears in your eyes but we all love Tiny! I sure you will once you read the book.

Praise For The Book -

Funny, rude and original (New York Times)

A terrific high-energy tale (Booklist)

And many more amazing reviews.

My Favorite Lines/ Quotes

you'd think silence is peaceful, but really it's painful

But with friendship, there's nothing like that. Being in a relationship that's something you choose. Being friends, that's something you are.

"People are just such idiots," Tiny says "as if there is something wrong with being in love",

And many more....

Book Review 12- Paper Towns - John Green

Synopsis: When Margo Roth Spiegel man beckons Quentin Jacobsen in the middle of the night-dressed like a ninja and plotting an ingenious campaign of revenge, he follows her. Margo's always planned extravagantly and, until now, she's always planned solo. After a lifetime of loving Margo from afar, things are finally looking up for Q... until day breaks and she has vanished.

The Review :

Funny, loving and heart breaking.

My first John Green book and I liked it a lot!

Margo enters Q's bedroom at midnight and tells him that she has 11 things to do before morning. After a lot of thought and practically being forced into giving in, Q agrees to help her and he soon realizes it was one of his best nights. EVER. Although he does wonder if things will be different the next day. If the popular Margo will sit with him for lunch or not. Will she talk to him or not. But he never does find out as Margo runs away again and doesn't return like she always did.

At the beginning I thought of Margo as an adventurous person. A daredevil. And Quentin her acquaintance. But as I kept turning pages I couldn't help but start feeling bad for Q. It was right for his friend to question his quest to find Margo many times.

This was one book that made me laugh. There were certain lines and moments that were funny. The relationship between Q and his friends Ben and Radar is commendable. Spoiler Alert! - They skip an important occasion for the sake of Q and his mission to find Margo and know for sure that her 'strings' didn't snap like the guy they found dead in the park when they were 10.

I couldn't put the book down for the following reasons-
* To know where the hell is Margo!
* To find out where she is hiding.
* How Q finds her.
* Do his friends help him or not?
* Margo is dead or alive?
* If she is alive- will she go back home with Q ? If not- what will he do after he finds her body?
* Is his love that strong to keep looking or give up and just graduate.

There are discussion questions in the book, at the end, which I had a hard time answering. But, they were good questions.

Mainly the book is about a troubled teen who can't be someone who she isn't and wants to make someone a stronger, braver, a hero-kind-of person.

 Praise For The Book :

Real pathos and humor - Financial Times.

Not only clever and wonderfully witty but also deeply thoughtful and insightful. - Booklist.

My Favorite Lines/ Quotes :

She loved mysteries so much that she became one.

The rules of capitalization are so unfair to the words in the middle.

And now life has become the future. Every moment of your life is lived for the moment.

"That's always seemed ridiculous to me that people would want to be around someone because they are pretty"

"Everything's uglier close up" .

The town was paper but the memories were not.

I could go on and on, there just so many beautiful lines in the book!

The Movie -

The poster is above on your right.

Book Review 11- All Fall Down - Ally Carter

Synopsis: I don't mean to get into trouble. Trouble just sort of finds me.
Grace has been shipped off to stay with her diplomat Grandpa in the glittering Embassy Row, a place where trespassing into the wrong garden can cause an international incident. Grace knows the rules - she's ignored them before - but however much she wants to change, she can't. Not while she's certain of three things:
1. She isn't crazy.
2. Her mother was murdered.
3. Someday she's going to find the man with the scar, and then she is going to make him pay.

The Review: Okay, so firstly Ally Carter is my favorite author and I`m so proud of this book too. The plot twist was amazing, I was in tears by the time I reached the last chapter. If anything at all this book wasn't a let down. Yes, Gallagher girls was fun and better but you must see that this story is different.
Now, in detail. Grace  or Gracie ( whom she let's only some call her by that name) is teen, staying with her grandfather who is US ambassador. So she is staying in the embassy with him and his assistant Ms. Chancellor. She strikes up a friendship with Noah Estaban, a boy whose parents are from two different embassies. Slowly, more characters step into the picture as you finish each chapter. There 38 chapters and of all these chapters the last chapter made me think twice if I was reading correctly or not. I read it twice. That particular chapter because there was so much. So take my advice and don't, not even by mistake glance at that chapter until you reach there.

Noah and Alexei are two boys who keep making sure if Grace is alright or not. Jamie is Grace's brother and asked Alexei to keep an eye on her. So, now you must be thinking there might be a love triangle here but I`m not gonna give anything away. You better not choose teams at the very beginning because through out the book Noah is very good to Grace and the first time he meets her he says :Hi, Grace. I'm Noah," he says. "I`m here to be your best friend". Where as Alexei later on, is such a gentleman to Grace, you can't help feeling like he is THE ONE for her,

But again, don't jump to conclusions. You'll be disappointed. Grace wants to catch her mother's killer and make him pay. Sounds exciting doesn't it? Well, it is. Just don't expect girls in uniforms or gorgeous thieves like Hale to make an appearance, because they don't and yet you can't pull away from the book.

Grace's appearances and excuses did make a laugh here and there but the end was heart breaking. First of all the girl watched her mother die three years ago and then had to undergo treatments and take medication, which sucks.

So, in this book, you have a confused yet determined teen-her oddly amazing friends-girl feuds- an angry yet loving grandpa-the charming boy next door-a best friend-a killer-a protector- a twist-the bitter truth and A SEQUEL COMING SOON!

Do yourself a favor and buy this book. I`ll review the Gallagher Series soon, after I read it again because it is a series of 5 novels.

Praise For The Book

Ally Carter has done it again! From the story to the cover, everything about All Fall Down is exciting and sure to keep you on your toes! http://sassyanddangerous.blogspot.mx/

Absolutely unputdownable and completely gripping... everything that fans of this series will have been waiting for... 10/10... an incredible series in which each book gets better and better. The Guardian

My Favorite Lines/Quotes

Anger is far easier emotion than guilt.

It's a terrible thing to realize you've been living a lie.

The drama never ends.

Book Review 10: Fallen #1 - Lauren Kate

SynopsisInstant. Intense. Weirdly familiar . . .
The moment Luce looks at Daniel she knows she has never felt like this before. Except she can't shake the feeling that she has . . . and with him - a boy she doesn't remember ever setting eyes on.
Will her attempt to find out why enlighten her - or destroy her?

Review: This was one hell of a book. It was gripping, heart breaking and I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed reading this more than House of Night. There angels, demons, deaths, kisses, dark pasts, strong friendships, plot twists-what more could a reader ask for?

There were many mixed reviews about this book, but I am so happy I bought it.

All the characters are beautifully brought forth and you can imagine everything that's happening. It's difficult to put this book down. There were times, when I was reading certain chapters and my mouth started to pain from smiling. You will also find a love triangle in the book which I guess keeps readers glued. This book is a wonder to me. The author has enamored so many hearts. I was entranced by the story. If anyone asked what I am reading this would be my reply- "a book about a fallen angel, and a troubled girl and a love triangle and a boarding school". It sounds crazy, but I have a better word for it-different. This book is different. Personally I enjoyed it more than House of Night which I just couldn't stand reading.

Buy this book, you will enjoy it even if you are not a sucker for super natural creatures.

Praise For The Book:

"This thriller is dark and romantic, an absolute blinder of a book. Every teenage girl (and her mum) is going to want to read it" (The Sun)

"Imaginative and very sexy" (Bella)

"Readers who prefer paranormal romance will adore Fallen by Lauren Kate" (Irish Independent)

"Bursting with emotion, this is a roller coaster story of unbridled and dangerous desires" (Love Reading)

"This is a gothic love story featuring fallen angels and forbidden love (a winning formula) that will thrill and delight in equal measure" (Fantasy Book Review)
My Favorite Lines/Quotes:

Trust is a careless pursuit at best. At worst, it's a good way to get yourself killed.

Book Review 9: Kiss & Blog - Alyson Noel

(This is my own click. Didn't get it from any website. Planning on keeping all my further posts like this. Gonna stop stealing from google :p just kidding!)

SynopsisAs sophomores at Ocean High, Winter and her best friend, Sloane, make a pact to do whatever it takes to make it to the top of the social pyramid. But once Sloane gets a taste of what it's like to fit in with the cool girls, she all but slams that door in Winter's face. Left without her best-friend-since-forever, Winter decides to take revenge the good old fashioned way: By airing Sloane's dirty secrets on an anonymous blog. But is her retaliation worth the consequences? And is the price for popularity one that Winter is willing to pay? Alyson Noël once again navigates the tricky waters of the high school social scene with the heart and humor her readers have come to love. Funny, heartwarming and completely entertaining, Kiss and Blog is the beautifully repackaged reissue of No.1 New York Times bestseller Alyson Noël's beloved novel.

The Back Cover of the Book:

The Review:

First I thought this book had already given away the plot in the title and the synopsis. But I`m glad I was wrong when I thought this book would end with a suicide or a sad story. It was different .

I was really surprised when I read a blog update. The secrets are so funny, and jaw dropping and unbelievably true! I can't imagine how Alyson Noel came up with those secrets.

I loved Rey! Totally a Rey-girl right now. (Sorry Zach and Hale)

It's so true. I thought I was reading somebody's true story, you know. I personally loved the book. And this time the first two chapters weren't as boring to me as all the other Alyson Noel books I`ve read.

But, apart from all the good, you might find this a common story. There are only two possibilities I could probably come up with when I started the book:
1. Winter ruins Sloane's social status through a blog and when everyone comes to know what Winter has done, they outcast her (even though is she kinda already an outcast) and then she kills herself. But if you have read Noel's books, you will know her books don't end so depressing....but I won't tell if this one did or didn't.
2. Winter ruins Sloane and becomes the queen bee and Sloane apologies and they own the school together. Can call this a happy ending...right? I will leave it to you to find out. No spoilers here.
Buy it!

If this doesn't keep you interested, the boys in the book will. I like the sound of that- BOYS IN THE BOOK! Anyway, so there is one guy at the beginning- Cash Davis. Then his brother's name makes an appearance who is head over heels for Winter's sister, Autumn (yes, they are named after seasons. How cool is that?!) . I think this particular revelation was included so that Winter realizes how lame her life is even though she dresses well and isn't a total psycho but her sister on the other hand dresses like a 'hippie' (Noel's words, not mine) .
But, this is not the end of the BOYS IN THE BOOK. Alyson made sure she keeps the girls glued to the book with another character named Rey. He is cool, charming, good kisser (just assuming) and is a guitarist and forms his own band! (Crush alert!). After a few pages, Rey brings some of his friends into the picture : Elijah, Mick, Hayden (who is a girl) and one more guy. Oh! I totally forgot to mention Rey, who we think will fall for Winter immediately- doesn't it. Read to find out why.

My Favorite Lines/Quotes:

When you really like the guy, it's never just a kiss.

And he goes, "Guess where I am."
And since I`m supposed to guess, I go, "Um, New Delhi?"

Memories are the only things we really own, the only things that stay constant. Everything else becomes dust.

People change, secrets are sacred, and with the right people in attendance, even the lowliest lunch table can feel like the warmest place on the planet.

These lines were included in the blog posts in the book and I liked a few. Here you go:

"You can observe a lot by watching - Yogi Berra

"Talk low, talk slow, and don't say too much" - John Wayne's advice on acting.

"For a good cause, wrong doing is virtuous" - Pubilius Syrus.

Be who are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." - Dr. Seuss

Book Review 8: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone (book 1) - J.K. Rowling.

Synopsis : Harry Potter thinks he is an ordinary boy. He lives with Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia and his cousin, Dudley, who make him sleep in a cupboard under the stairs. Then Harry starts receiving mysterious letters and his life is changed forever. He is whisked away by a beetle eyed giant of a man and enrolled in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The reason: Harry Potter is a wizard!

The Review: To be honest, I`d bought this book long back but never read it because I thought Harry Potter was lame. I never watched the movie either. But how wrong I was! I read the book last week and loved it. I couldn't put it down. It was my first book about wizards and magic. I also watched the movie after I was done with the book. But I enjoyed the book much much better. I`ve already decided to order the next part. Also, Dumbledore, the headmaster of the school was my favorite character. He is wise and speaks so calmly even in the worst of worst situations.

The use of language is good. Also to write a story like this and capture the reader is an amazing job done by the author. I would recommend this book to anybody. I wasn't fan of wizards, but I did enjoy the book.

Praise for the book:
The Herald, said, "I have yet to find a child who can put it down.

In 1997 the UK edition won a National Book Award and a gold medal in the 9 to 11 year-olds category of the Nestlé Smarties Book Prize

By mid-2008 official translations of the book were published in 67 languages. Bloomsbury have published translations in Latin and in Ancient Greek, and the latter was described as "one of the most important pieces of Ancient Greek prose written in many centuries"

My Favorite quotes/lines:

'It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live'

'Fear of a name increases fear of the thing itself'.

'The truth,' Dumbledore sighed. 'It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution...

Even though the person who loved us is gone, will give us some protection forever.

Death is but the next great adventure.

Humans do have a  knack of choosing precisely those things which are worst for them.
